Background
Casamance, in southern Senegal, is a region surrounded by river and sea. At one health post, getting a single photocopy meant taking a boat to town. Night deliveries were done by torchlight.
In 2019, under the memorandum of understanding with Senegal’s Ministry of Health, SUCRECUBE Japon equipped 10 rural health posts with a TUMIQUI Smart Kit. Electricity made night consultations and deliveries possible. In the health posts the company has electrified, more than 600 deliveries have since taken place with electricity. In 2025, on the strength of this record, the company was selected under the JICA Biz programme to test, in three health posts in Casamance, what to connect beyond the power supply.

What was installed
The three posts received a TUMIQUI Smart Kit, a Seiko Epson printer and a television. The power is used for night consultations and deliveries. The printer sits in the consultation room and prints documents on the spot. The television sits in the waiting area and plays health education videos. The model proven in schools, a powered television playing videos, has been carried over to the health post.

Result
The equipment is used every day the posts are open. The photocopy that once required a boat trip is now printed in the consultation room. A health post manager said: “We can work at night now.” The pairing of power and printer is still being tested at these three sites. The proven configuration will be used in proposals for the next health posts.
