Ceremony held to extend the MOU with the Ministry of National Education

On 23 February 2024, a ceremony was held to extend a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between 3 parties: the Ministry of National Education of Senegal, the Municipality of Sandiara and SUCRECUBE Japon. The MOU is titled “Memorandum of understanding for digital lessons in the schools of Sandiara”. The Secretary General of the Thiès Academy Inspectorate attended for the Ministry of National Education. Mayor DIOP of Sandiara and Koichi SATO, CEO, also attended. Counsellor Hirose attended from the Embassy of Japan in Senegal.

About two and a half years have passed since the signing in 2021. With the cooperation of the Ministry of National Education and the Municipality of Sandiara, SUCRECUBE Japon has used the TUMIQUI system for remote teaching to deliver PROMET, the Ministry’s digital educational content. Beyond content delivery, the Company has also electrified unelectrified schools with solar power. Teachers can now charge their ICT equipment and use computers. The learning environment has improved significantly.

The basis of the TUMIQUI business is to provide electricity and telecommunications at the same time. This approach produced clear results in the official pilot with the Ministry of National Education. Teachers also presented their satisfaction with the user experience. These results led to the official extension of the MOU.

The following was announced at the ceremony. “A pilot project will now start in the Municipality of Sandiara and the Department of Mbour. It will integrate PROMET video lessons into actual classes and measure the effect on learning. The project will then be extended to other areas and to remote parts of Senegal.”

The ceremony also noted the following. In Senegal, the electrification rate is close to 100% in urban areas but only in the 10% range in remote areas. In such villages, schools also have no electricity. Teachers and learning materials are also lacking, so children do not have equal access to education. This project aims to address that situation.

The Company will continue to use electricity and telecommunications to improve the learning environment in Senegal and across Africa. The aim is for teachers and students to learn more fully and for everyone to have equal access to education.

The ceremony was broadcast on national television and can be viewed here:
